Nokor Wat News Daily

Nokor Wat Daily was founded in 2010 by General Kun Kim, the deputy commander-in-chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, and Mr. Touch Kong Kea, its director. General Kun Kim is the former backer of DAP Media Center, one of leading media outlets in Cambodia.

According to the newspaper, 50 000 are published daily six days a week and 1 300 are distributed free of charge in Phnom Penh to government offices and coffee shops. It covers all sorts of news, from sports to international news. Its parent website (www.nokorwatnews.com) gets 20,000 to 25,000 visitors a day, according to Nokor Wat Daily. In 2011, the paper sued Soy Sopheap, the founder of DAP Media Center over charges of criminal infringement. The paper claimed Soy Sopheap tempered with the correspondence of Nokor Wat.

Nokor Wat Daily belongs to Nokor Wat Media Center, a media group which also runs Nokor Wat monthly magazine.

The data was collected from the media itself and accuracy in numbers could not be verified by a third party study.

The Cambodian media landscape counts at least two new outlets, a TV and a newspaper. Since the former started its daily activity and the latter its broadcasting in 2015, MOM decided not to include as most relevant medium. With less than a year of existence, the audience shares would not be representative of their popularity.

It can be highlighted, however, that their growth is taking place rapidly and their strategy seems more aggressive than the existing media on the market. Both are now hiring journalists and newsroom staffs from existing newsrooms, heightening the competition on both TV and print sectors, which are already highly concentrated.
