Yin Phanny
Yin Phanny, 55, is the owner of the Koh Santepheap Group. She worked with her husband, Thong Uypang, in the 1990’s to re-publish the Koh Santepheap daily newspaper, one of Cambodia’s most popular newspapers that was forbidden from 1975 to 1993. Before being involved in the newspaper management, Phanny worked as a nurse at a hospital in Phnom Penh.
From 1993 to 2005, Phanny worked as a publisher and the general manager of Koh Santepheap, while her husband was the editor-in-chief. In 2005, she handed over the management work of the newspaper to their daughter, Thong Sovanrangsi (ថុង សុវណ្ណរង្ស៊ី) who is now serving as the publisher. Sovanrangsi’s husband, Chea Garuda (ជា ហ្គារូដា), is the general manager. The same year, she got a title of Oknha for her contribution to society, according to her husband, Thong Uypang.
In 2010, she became the director of Koh Santepheap Group, the parent company of Koh Santepheap which was registered at the ministry of commerce since 2005. She is also the owner and chairwoman of ANINA Tower in Phnom Penh. The family also owns Central Superstore, a grocery store next to ANINA tower. She also has the honorable title of deputy president of the Phnom Penh Cambodian Red Cross. She now lives in Phnom Penh with her husband, daughter and son-in-law, while her youngest son is living in the US.
