Heng Sovann

Heng Sovann, 41, is the owner of Mongkul Sovann radios stations.

During the Khmer rouge regime, Sovann lost both his parents, and his 4 older siblings were able to support him. In 1996, he graduated from the faculty of physics at the Royal University of Phnom Penh and earned a Certificate of Pedagogy (Physics) from the National Institute of Education. He started working as a TV3 and 103 FM host in Phnom Penh in 1995, as he was still studying. He worked there until 2006, while teaching English part-time.

In 2007, Heng launched Mongkul Sovann radio in Siem Reap with his wife, after they were granted a broadcasting license from the Ministry of Information in January the same year. According to him, the station is self-funded and was launched to disseminate information and knowledge to his fellow citizens.

From 2009, the Sovann family gradually extended the coverage of the station to Battambang, Sihanoukville (2010 ), Kampong Cham (2011), Banteay Meanchey (2012), Pursat (2013), and Kampot (2014). In 2013, the family also bought Mongkul Thmey in Siem Reap and [registered the import-export trade company Mongkul Sovann Trading Co., Ltd] (http://www.moc.gov.kh/en-us/company-search/type/1/id/24852), to import health supplements and organic fertilizers. Heng holds 100% of the shared of the company and directs it. Its radio stations promote Mongkul Sovann Trading Co., Ltd products on air.

Heng Sovann currently lives in Siem Reap with his wife and 3 children. His wife also owns a cosmetic shop in Siem Reap named Nice Cosmetic.
